Do Calling Cards Work From Any Phone?
One of the concerns one might have about using a calling
card is whether you can use it from any phone. After all,
there would be no benefit derived from a calling card that
can only be used from certain phones. This is not as big
a concern as it used to be when one had the choice of touch-tone
or analog (dial) service. However, if you do happen to have
an old phone that does not have touchtone service, a phone
card will not work. It must have touch-tone service in order
for you to be able to enter the access codes for our card.
Some phone cards may have optional operator assistance features,
but those are intended for emergencies when you just can’t
get through the touch-tone system, and not as a regular
feature.
Some very old pay phones may still have a rotary dialer
instead of touch-tone, and you will not be able to use your
card on those. However, also keep in mind that many providers
including IBNTel do charge a surcharge for using your calling
card from a pay phone. For IBNTel the surcharge from a pay
phone is seventy-five cents, which is quite a lot based
on the low cost of long distance services. Since you have
a calling card, there is no valid reason to use a pay phone
unless you find yourself away from a phone, and that is
the only one available. Even if you have a cell phone that
does not have long distance, you can use your calling card.
You will be charged for your minutes, but you will not be
charged for making a long distance call, a much more economical
option than using a pay phone.

IBNTel has two types
of calling cards: prepaid and post paid. The prepaid calling
card requires payment in advance in a specific denomination.
On the other hand, a postpaid calling card is billed monthly
for calls you made. Both start at about 3.9 cents per minute,
but if your budget only allows a certain amount for long
distance calls, you should stay with the prepaid card.
