Is There A Contract For The Wireless Service?
Since IBNTel is not the carrier, but just the processor
of the applications for wireless service, the contract and
its length will depend on the wireless provider. In most
cases, there will be a contract period unless you are purchasing
prepaid wireless service. In that case, there is no contract,
and your service lasts as long as you desire. Just like
a prepaid calling car, you buy minutes for a certain price,
and when the minutes are exhausted, you have to buy a new
card.
With a standard wireless phone plan, the contract period
is either twelve or twenty-four months, although most plans
that come with a free phone such as those promoted by IBNTel
are customarily for two years. What this means is that if
you cancel your contract before the two years is up whether
that is because you no longer want the service or whether
the provider cancels it because of non-payment, you will
be billed for an early termination fee. This fee varies
from carrier to carrier, but it usually runs in the area
of about $175, although it may be more contingent upon the
phone you received with your contract. As a rule of thumb,
most carriers charge an early termination fee in order to
offset the cost of the free phone and other benefits that
they gave you as a condition of your contract.
